Sports Counselling Therapy in Barrie
Supporting the Mind Behind the Movement
If you're an athlete or someone who simply loves to move, you probably know that performance isn’t just about physical training. The mind plays a powerful role in how we show up, push through, recover, and grow.
At Evolution Counselling Services, we offer sports counselling therapy to help you navigate the emotional, mental, and psychological aspects of your sport or active lifestyle. Whether you're dealing with performance anxiety, recovering from an injury, or feeling burnt out and disconnected from the sport you once loved, we’re here to support you in a way that feels grounded, human, and hopeful.
You don’t have to face these challenges alone.

What Is Sports Counselling Therapy?
Sports counselling, also known as sports performance therapy, blends traditional talk therapy with tools from performance psychology, mindfulness, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). It’s a space to explore what’s going on behind the scenes - thoughts, emotions, habits, stress, and how they’re showing up in your sport and your life.
You don’t have to be a professional athlete to benefit. This work is for anyone who’s invested in their performance and well-being: recreational athletes, fitness lovers, youth in sport, coaches, or those stepping away from competitive environments.

Common Areas We Work With
Performance Support
-
Overthinking before or during games or competitions.
-
Struggling with confidence or focus
-
Perfectionism and pressure to succeed
-
Staying motivated through tough seasons
We’ll work on building mental skills—like visualization, self-talk, and emotional regulation- to help you feel more present, prepared, and connected to your goals.

Injury and Setbacks
-
Feeling lost, frustrated, or anxious while sidelined
-
Worries about re-injury or not being the same again
-
Grieving the temporary or permanent loss of sport
Injury isn’t just physical, it impacts identity, confidence, and mental health. Together, we can process the emotional side of recovery and support your return to movement when the time is right.
Finding Balance
-
Juggling sport, school, work, and relationships
-
Feeling burnt out, numb, or unsure why you’re still doing this
-
Transitioning out of competitive sport or changing roles
This part of therapy often involves reconnecting to purpose, setting boundaries, and redefining your identity beyond performance.
Team and Coach Dynamics
-
Communication breakdowns with teammates or coaches
-
Navigating toxic environments or conflict
-
Exploring leadership roles in team settings
We can support you in developing stronger communication skills, setting healthy boundaries, and stepping into leadership with clarity and care.
Mental Health and the Athlete Experience
-
Depression, anxiety, panic, or disordered eating
-
Struggles with self-worth tied to performance
-
Feeling isolated or misunderstood in sports settings
We approach this work through a trauma-informed lens and often integrate CBT, mindfulness, and emotion-focused therapy to support healing, resilience, and mental wellness.
